For many travelers heading into the Rif Mountains, taxis are the most flexible way to reach Ketama. Morocco’s unique grand taxi system makes it possible to travel between cities and villages without booking in advance. Understanding how this system works — and which cities connect directly to Ketama — will help you plan a smooth and authentic journey.
Morocco has two main types of taxis:
For Ketama, you will need to use grand taxis from key northern Moroccan cities.
Tangier is one of the best starting points. From Tangier, grand taxis depart toward Chefchaouen and onward to Ketama.
This route is popular with travelers, so it is usually easy to find a taxi during the day.
Tetouan offers a shorter ride compared to Tangier. Grand taxis leave the central taxi stands and head toward the Rif mountains.
Because of its location, Tetouan is one of the fastest and most direct ways into Ketama by taxi.
Al Hoceima is geographically the closest airport city to Ketama, and taxis are a reliable way to make the final leg of the journey.
This is the most comfortable taxi option if you fly into Al Hoceima.
Fes is a major hub for budget airlines and domestic flights, but it is farther from Ketama. Taxis are available, though the ride is long.
While possible, many travelers prefer buses from Fes, then a taxi for the final stretch.
From Morocco’s southern airports, taking a taxi all the way to Ketama is not recommended — it would take more than 10 hours and be very costly. Instead, fly or take a train north (to Tangier, Fes, Tetouan, or Al Hoceima), then continue by grand taxi.
