Taking the bus is one of the most affordable and authentic ways to travel in Morocco. The national bus network connects nearly every city, and for travelers heading into the Rif Mountains, it offers reliable access to towns near Ketama.
While no major bus line goes directly to Ketama, buses run to nearby cities and villages, where you can continue by grand taxi for the final stretch. This guide explains the main routes, travel times, and how to connect smoothly.
The largest operator is CTM (Compagnie de Transports au Maroc), known for safe, comfortable, and punctual services. Another major company is Supratours, often linked with train travel. Smaller regional buses and minibuses also operate, especially in northern Morocco.
Buses are inexpensive compared to taxis, making them a good option for budget-conscious travelers.
Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue City,” is a common stop for travelers. From Chefchaouen, Ketama is only about 2–3 hours by grand taxi.
Once in Chefchaouen, taxis to Ketama are readily available, especially in the morning.
Al Hoceima is another excellent hub. Though smaller, it has direct bus links with major cities, and from Al Hoceima it’s only 2.5–3 hours by taxi to Ketama.
If you can find a connection to Al Hoceima, this is one of the shortest onward journeys to Ketama.
Issaguen (also known locally as Ketama town) is sometimes served by smaller regional buses and minibuses. Services are less frequent and harder to book online, but possible from Chefchaouen or Al Hoceima.
This is the closest you’ll get to Ketama by bus, though schedules are irregular and may change seasonally.
Many international travelers land in Fes and take a bus north. Fes connects to Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, and Tetouan by daily CTM buses.
From any of these cities, you continue to Ketama by taxi.
