Discover the heart of Morocco’s Rif Mountains through culture, community, and a centuries-old cannabis legacy.
In 2017, a single visit to Ketama sparked the vision for what would become Visit Ketama. What began as a personal trip quickly transformed into a mission: to share Ketama’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and living cannabis heritage with the world. At that time, cannabis cultivation in Morocco was still illegal. Yet it was clear that, if legalization came, the local communities—who had nurtured this tradition for generations—should be at the heart of the change.
That idea grew into a platform dedicated to responsible tourism, cultural preservation, and creating new opportunities for residents. Learn more about our story.
Unlike many tourist destinations, Ketama offers an experience that blends untouched natural landscapes with deep cultural traditions. Nestled in the Rif Mountains, the town and surrounding villages have a reputation for producing some of the finest cannabis resin in the world—a craft perfected over centuries.
But Ketama is not only about cannabis. Visitors also discover Berber hospitality, mountain adventures, and seasonal produce that showcases the region’s unique flavors. You might hike through cedar forests in the morning, share mint tea with farmers in the afternoon, and enjoy traditional music at night.
The cannabis plant has been part of Ketama’s identity for centuries. Locals pass down cultivation techniques, processing methods, and knowledge of the land through generations. This tradition is tied to cultural rituals, seasonal cycles, and the community’s way of life.
Today, Morocco’s Law 13-21 regulates legal cannabis for medical, industrial, and research purposes. While the market is evolving, Ketama remains a living classroom for anyone interested in cannabis history, sustainable farming, and cultural exchange.
